Project Description
- State the purpose and objectives of this Ministry or Project:
The Vicariate has a Foundation in Holland which provides funding for Projects for youth and children in Health and Education and Formation in Human and Supernatural Values We need a person to accompany this Foundation, making projects, reporting on projects, writing thank you letters, writing interesting reports, doing basic book keeping. Keep Ámsterdam aware of current happenings with sick poor, handicapped, youth etc. Acknowledge gifts referred by Ámsterdam. Convey to donors what they share in all we are able to do.
- Briefly describe the background and present situation of this ministry:
This Foundation was founded some 12 years ago and is doing wonderful works in supporting our Youth Ministry, and Programs in Health for Children and Youth.
- What other programs, activities or possible projects are involved in this ministry:
The ministry itself for the volunteer is to accompany projects of the Foundation, give reports, keep basic books, process projects, do follow ups and reports on projects and activities.
- Give a brief description of the area in which the lay missioner would be working. Include information such as: rural or urban, income level of area, primary needs of the people in the area, etc.)
Urbam area. poor,lower and middle class, poverty in formation in human values, some malnutrion in children. General lack of orientation for living.
- Are there any special problems or conditions in the area or project which might restrict some applicants: political, health, personnel, etc. Please describe.
None,it is tropical,a bit warmer then Santa Cruz but less wind.
Job Description
- List and describe the major duties to be performed in this ministry or job. Please also include an estimation on the number of hours per day/week you spend on each duty.
Accompany the works of Foundation. Make reports to Directors, basic book keeping, write thank you notes to donors, prepare articles for news letters, write and present projects six hours a day. The volunteer can make what he or see wants of the job. There are opportunities for hands on work in catequesis and counseling.

Necessary Qualifications
- Please indicate below the qualifications or skills considered necessary for performing well in this ministry - i.e. language, special skills, technical training, physical strength, etc.
A strong commitment to Jesus and the constructon of his kingdom. Write English well with good grammar, speak spanish, basic book keeping, basic computer skills and getting along with people is must.
- What particular areas of academic preparation or educational certification would be helpful for this work:
Some computer skills,good in human relations,working in a team and should have a college degree.
- Describe the experience that would be helpful for this position:
Worked with children and youth before and should have good human relations.
- Briefly describe the personal and professional qualities most needed in this ministry:
Responsibility, self discipline,testimony of life as disciple of Jesus, good relations with others, adaptability to new culture and willing to learn this culture without imposing ones own culture.
Any other comments relevant to performing this ministry?
If they would be interest in sending two volunteers and not just one. We are always in need of volunteers in education, counselling and youth activities.
Mission Site Living Conditions...
- Do the SLMs live with the religious members of the community?
No
- If "No", where do the SLMs live?
They live in a Pastoral Center, eat with the community of Bishop and diocesan priests plus seminarians at times. They are invited to participate in daily prayer which is the Office with a shared reflection on the Gospel of the Day. Five diocesan priest plus the Bishop form the basic community. We have a very open community where people come and go and share our table.

- What you do for laundry:
There are facilities for washing clothes and clothes can be hand washed very cheaply.
- What are the local medical facilities like (where would you go for an infection, broken bone, etc.)?
We have good doctors and a good hospital. There is good medical care with some specialities. Access to health facilities in bigger cities.
- What does your local diet primarily consist of?
Good wholsome food, rice is the staple, some potatoes, tomatoes, some lettuce, etc, meat of all types, good fish. Light on green vegetables.
- Is there an ATM relatively close where you have access to money?
No
If "No", what is the preferred method of receiving money?
Thru check in mail or bank transfer to Vicariate where volunteer has his or her own personal account.
- What is your involvement with the religious community?
I am the Bishop, live and work with the community.
- What is your involvement with the greater community (local festivals, invited over for meals, dance groups, etc.)?
I am 72 years old and party very little. There are lots of social events to which the volunteers would be invited to.
- What other things do you feel others should know about "Life at your site"?
Should want to discover the beauty of a new culture, expierience a need to be loved and to love in Christ.
