TIMOTHY BULTMAN - COLUMBUS, OH
Hello from Columbus, home of the Salesian Boys and Girls Club, which is the largest Boys and Girls club in the country. I am the first SLM ever to be placed here. I have been here for about nine months, and I'm really enjoying the experience. The kids are great. I love working with them. They are always saying or doing something funny or unique that always keeps me motivated and in a great mood. One of the best parts of being at this location, is that I don't HAVE to leave the building for anything. I eat, sleep, pray, work and relax all in the same place. I don't have to deal with heavy traffic, bad weather or an empty gas tank on the way to or from work. My main responsibility is working in the Club as a youth development staffer. I try my best to make my presence known among the kids, be a friend, and spend time with them. In my opinion, the Salesian Boys and Girls Club is a perfect working example of how John Bosco's oratories were. In the short time that I have been here, I have really learned the "Salesian way of life", and I have implemented the preventive system into my every day life from my experiences in the club. Living in community and experiencing community life is also great. I live with six experienced religious people who are very knowledgeable and have taught me a lot about the Salesians, religious life, and living in community. Being a Salesian Lay Missioner has been a great experience for me and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made in life so far. I highly recommend this experience to all young adults who love children and want to love and serve God in a new and awesome way. May God bless you all.
